Clarens is one of the Free State’s most beloved tourist destinations β nestled in the foothills of the Maloti Mountains, surrounded by sandstone cliffs, golden light, and world-class natural beauty. Yet tourist activity has historically been concentrated in Clarens proper, rarely extending into the neighbouring township of Kgubetswana.
The Seriti Road Initiative was born to change that. Community members, local professionals and stakeholders came together from 2022 to develop a plan that extends the tourism footprint into Kgubetswana β creating jobs, enabling businesses, celebrating culture, and connecting people.
Seriti Road NPC is formally registered (Reg. No. 2022/389557/08) and the initiative has been incorporated into the Dihlabeng Local Spatial Development Framework.

The Seriti Road Initiative unfolds in two complementary phases β one focused on local enterprise along Seriti Street, the other on a flagship destination precinct.
Residents along Seriti Street will use portions of their stands to establish small businesses, formally rezoned to support SMMEs. The initiative helps source funding, provide training, and offer mentorship.
The flagship phase creates a vibrant mixed-use precinct with tourism, recreation, culture and sport at its heart β designed by and for the people of Clarens-Kgubetswana.
Whether you are an investor, a local entrepreneur or a donor who believes in community-led development β there is a place for you in the Seriti Road story.
